Govt must do something dramatic to change the mood of the nation: CEO panel

2020 has been the worst year in India’s recent history with economic recession, covid crisis and China’s incursion on India’s border, says Mr Sudhir Jalan, Chairman, Neo Foods. He says that even after a rebound in growth next year, India’s GDP could still be 2% lower in March 2022 compared to March 2020, signifying a loss of two years for the country.

IT services industry is not immune to its customers' problems: Rishad Premji

India IT industry has enhanced its reputation for meeting its customers’ needs during the covid crisis, but it has not been immune to their problems, says Mr Rishad Premji, Chairman, Wipro.

Speaking at the 47th National Management Convention of All India Management Association (AIMA), Mr Premji said that Indian IT services industry struggled in the April-June quarter because customers cut spending on technology early on in the covid crisis, but since then the industry had stabilized as customers have come back looking for help in shifting to the digital model. “There is a change in the customers’ mindset and they are becoming more comfortable with the digital medium,” he said.

India needs more banks and must double credit to GDP ratio to 100%: RBI Board member

India does not change for better; it changes only when there is no option, according to Mr Manish Sabharwal, Chairman, Teamlease Services and a member of the Central Board of Directors of Reserve Bank of India. “If we don’t do reforms now, then when will we do it,” he says.

According to Mr Sabharwal, India needs immediate reforms in banking, compliance, labour laws, education etc because hope is not a strategy. He argues that India needs to increase its credit to GDP ratio from 50% to 100% and it needs more banks, albeit with better regulation.

Dairy sector will produce 1.2 crore jobs over next 10 years: Amul Chief India is world’s biggest and the fastest growing market for food and the organized dairy sector alone would create 1.2 crore new jobs over the next 10 years, says Dr R S Sodhi, Managing Director, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (Amul).

Dr Sodhi said that the organized dairy sector in India was set to grow from $30 billion to $110 bn over the next decade and there were enormous opportunities for investors in the entire value chain, from animal breeding and feeding to logistics and packaging. India produces 21% of the milk in the world and India’s milk market was growing at 5% whereas the global milk market was growing at 1.8%, he pointed out. “Amul had not invested overseas because the market and the growth, both are in India,” he said.

Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank addressed the 25th Conovocation of All India Management Association (AIMA) and explained the vision and aims of the recently announced New Education Policy.

The Minister congratulated AIMA students for receiving their various management degrees, diplomas and certificates. At the convocation, 17 students were presented PhDs in Business Administration, a course run by AIMA in partnership with Aligarh Muslim University. AIMA’s flagship Post-Graduate Diploma in Management was presented to 603 students. The Post-Graduate Diploma in IT Management was given to 13 students and 925 students were awarded certificates and diplomas for completing various short and specialized management courses.

Once the artificial restrictions on flights and hotels are removed, people will rush back to travel, says Aditya Ghosh, former CEO of IndiGo and Oyo Hotels & Homes. Invented in India is the key to Atmanirbhar Bharat, not assembled in India: DR Mashelkar

India needs to reinvent ‘Make in India’ programme, according to Dr RA Mashelkar, Former Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). “We do not need just assembled in India but invented and designed in India,” he told India’s management leaders in an online dialogue organized by All India Management Association (AIMA). He argued that India can become ‘atmanirbhar’ only with ‘atmavishwas’.

Dr Mashelkar pointed out that it was easier to trade in India than to make in India because of extreme bureaucracy. He reminded that businesses of different sizes had to comply with hundreds and thousands of compliances routinely. Govt considering doubling the credits for online learning: AICTE Chairman-AICTE to promote remotely proctored exams

The MHRD, UGC and AICTE are considering increasing the credits for online courses from 20% to 40%, according to Dr Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE. He revealed this in an interactive session with stakeholders in India’s higher education sector. The session was part of the ‘LeaderSpeak’ webinar series organized by All India Management Association (AIMA) and was anchored by Mr T V Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Manipal Global Education.

AICTE Chairman said that remotely proctored exams have already been allowed to many institutes, including AIMA, to comply with lockdowns and social distancing. “Tools are available for remotely proctored exams that can stop the exam within seconds if anything fishy is noticed,” Dr Sahsrabudhe said. However, he pointed out that not all tests can be conducted online because of internet connectivity issues in many parts of the country. “We need technology for conducting online tests with low bandwidth and on mobile phones,” he said

Due to the disruption caused by COVID-19, the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) for admission to management schools across India has been rescheduled from May to June.

The computer-based MAT will now be held on 21 June 2020 instead of 3 May 2020 and the paper-based MAT will be held on 14 June 2020 instead of 16 May 2020. The rescheduling is being done prevent hardship to candidates if the restrictions on movement and assembly continue for some more time.

27 September 2017, New Delhi: The government will revive the PPP mode for infrastructure projects in six months, says Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways; Shipping and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation. The Rs 5-6 lakh crore of EPC projects have improved the financial health of the contractors and investors but they still need some more time to recover, he told National Management Convention of All India Management Convention.

21 February 2017. New Delhi Yusuf K Hamied, Chairman, Cipla has offered free knowhow for making the essential drugs in the public sector. Speaking at the Diamond Jubilee Foundation Day ceremony of All India Management Association (AIMA), which is also observed as the National Management Day, Hamied said that healthcare was a different business and it required different rules which prioritized human lives more than the profits. “No one should be denied medicine,” he said.
