The Ministry of Communication has set up a telecom security operations centre to scrutinize every incoming and outgoing call and email for cyber attacks, according to Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Communication and Development of North Eastern Region.
He said it while addressing 51st National Management Convention of All India Management Association (AIMA). He pointed out that this operation is being enable by completely indigenous technology. The centre will warn banks and financial institutions and others about any detected malware attack.
The Minister also informed that each Indian will soon be assigned a geolocated address code, a postal digipin. The pilot for the project is being conducted in four cities and 10 villages. The entire population will be issued this code within three years, the minister said.
Having notified the Post Office Act and the New Telecom Act, the ministry will issue the rules by December 2024, the minister promised. He assured that the rules will be transparent and forward looking.
To make India future ready, as there is more automated work and more work from home, if required, the regulatory and policy frameworks will be adjusted to ensure productivity, the minister assured.
Emphasizing India’s need for developing local technologies, Mr Scindia said that his ministry has set a target of India owning 10% of the all international patents in 6G technology. He pointed to India’s development of 4G technology for BSNL network and the rollout of RAN networks as markers of India’s progress in indigenous technology development.
The minister said that India will achieve 100% saturation of telecom connectivity by mid 2025. In addition to about 40,000 telecom towers being constructed for that objective, the satcom rules are being redefined, the minister said. He said that to enable seamless internet of things, the mapping of paths of least obstruction has been taken up.
Make in India is another key thrust area for the ministry. Mr Scindia said that the PLI scheme has enabled Rs 4,500 crore investment in telecom equipment during the past three years and Rs 10,500 crore worth of equipment export has been achieved.
Complimenting AIMA on its 51st National Management Convention, Mr Scindia said that he has been privileged to be associated with AIMA for more than two decades and his interactions with AIMA have been extremely fruitful.
Mr Scindia presented AIMA Managing India Award 2024 for ‘Outstanding Corporate Citizen’ to Mr Ashish Dhawan, Founder & CEO, The Convergence Foundation and Founding Chairperson, Ashoka University. He also presented the AIMA Managing India Award 2024 for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Media’ to Ms Latha Venkatesh, Consulting Editor, CNBC-TV18.
Speaking during the session, AIMA President, Mr Nikhil Sawhney stressed the need for India to develop its own technologies citing the rivalry between the two great powers over technology. He also highlighted the importance of the northeast region to India’s economic growth given its centrality to India’s trade with the neighbouring countries.
Ms Suneeta Reddy, Senior Vice President, AIMA lauded Mr Scindia’s achievements in the communication ministry and also in his previous assignment in the aviation ministry. She appreciated the minister’s transformative efforts that are benefitting both the industry and the consumers.
Earlier, inaugurating the National Management Convention, Mr Sawhney said that the recent years have been extremely demanding on India’s management leadership. He pointed out that currently there are two secular growth trends that India needs to catch on to: AI and energy transition. He said that India needs an industrial policy to foster AI technologies and the required infrastructure. He said that energy transition is a trade opportunity worth about $120 trillion and India needs to have focused export strategy to capitalize on this biggest trade opportunity ever.
Mr Sanjay Kirloskar, Chairman & Managing Director, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, pointed out that Indian economy is gaining momentum and India’s international status and influence are rising even as the world is focused on wars, disruptions and inflation. However, he argued that India still needed to give greater role in economic growth to labour, women in particular. He also emphasized the need for addressing the inter-generational rights to gain from the green movements in other large economies.
Mr Sudhir Jalan, Chairman, Neo Foods Pvt Ltd, said that it is rush hour for Indian economy, which is about to touch $4 trillion in size and will get to $5 trillion in the next few years.
During the inaugural session, AIMA presented the AIMA - Kewal Nohria Award for Academic Leadership in Management Education to Prof Umakant Dash, Director, Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) and the AIMA - R K Swamy High Performance Brand Award to Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd.
AIMA also presented the Best LMA Awards 2023-24 to the best performing local management associations. Ahmedabad, Thrissur, Indore and Coimbatore management associations won the top honours in their respective categories of LMAs. Jamshedpur Management Association received the Most Improved LMA Award.
The convention is being attended by about 800 delegates and it is being streamed live on AIMA’s social media channels.
