10 June 2020, New Delhi
The vision of the Council is to build a world class online Management Education and facilitate the transition of Indian universities to world class institutions.
All India Management Association (AIMA) a pioneer in online education in India, organised a virtual Conference of Vice Chancellors, Provosts, Pro Chancellors, Directors, Deans, Senior Academicians and professionals from Industry, on the theme ‘The Emerging Online Education Scenario’. The Conference was inaugurated by Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal Past President, AIMA, Chancellor, BML Munjal University and Chairman, The Hero Enterprise.
In his keynote address Mr Munjal shared that under the present circumstances, technology has emerged as an important disruptor and facilitator and is transforming the learning process. It has made borders meaningless and created more opportunities for Indian institutions in online education. But he stressed that we need to view the Indian education system in a comprehensive manner and our major concern is the quality of higher education. While face to face teaching provides quality, online education could only be a facilitator and cannot substitute face to face interactions in the current education scenario of India.
While addressing the participants, Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar, President AIMA and Chairman & Managing Director, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd emphasised that the Government’s announcement that 100 top universities could offer online courses without regulatory permission; is a big step towards modernisation of higher education in the country. The effort to liberalise the regulation of open, online and distance education has been crucial for both the students and the education providers during the lockdown.
To build a network of University leaders in online education he announced the formation of AIMA’s Vice Chancellors Council. The vision of the Council is to build a world class online Management Education and facilitate the transition of Indian universities to world class institutions.
AIMA’s Vice Chancellors Council would present an opportunity to members to ideate, discuss and recommend policy changes which could then be taken up with the Government. It would also discuss measures to promote global quality in management education, particularly in the online mode. The council would also organise an Education Leaders Conference every year, to discuss new developments in world economy, industry, technology, and management education.
