Today India ranks first in lung disease related deaths in the world. 10% of total deaths are caused due to Lung Diseases, leading to 1.2 Million Premature Deaths Annually. 14 of the 20 most polluted cities are in India and over 50% of the sites studied across India had critical levels of PM10/PM 2.5 pollution.
There is no non-smoker in India and on an average everyone is smoking 5-7 cigarettes a day, including newborns. If the air quality index of your city shows 440, it means that each person is inhaling smoke equivalent to 20 cigarettes a day. This is a hard-fact that we cannot deny. This is an issue of national concern.
