AIMA held its 68th Foundation Day and 18th National Management Day on the theme ‘The Indian Century: Managing Growth with Transformation’ on 21st February 2024. The event was celebrated by AIMA’s network of 67 Local Management Associations (LMAs) all over the country, and brought together delegates from across the Industry, Government, media, and academia.
The distinguished Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship. Mr. Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa of India, graced the event as the Guest of Honour and delivered the keynote address. Mr. Nikhil Sawhney, President of AIMA and Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Triveni Turbine Ltd, welcomed the delegates, while Mr. Shrinivas Dempo, Immediate Past President of AIMA, and Chairman of Dempo Group of Companies, provided the concluding remarks. Ms. Rekha Sethi, Director General of AIMA, delivered the introductory remarks.
An MoU was also signed by Mr. John Varghese, Principal, St. Stephen's College, Delhi, Delhi University and Ms. Rekha Sethi between AIMA and St. Stephen's College to collaboratively develop academic programmes aimed at providing training in knowledge domains for capacity building.
As part of the Foundation Day tradition, AIMA Awards of Excellence were also presented to various industry stalwarts, academic leaders, and young innovators.
Mr. Sanjiv Bajaj, Chairman & Managing Director, Bajaj Finserv Ltd received the AIMA-JRD Tata Corporate Leadership Award and Mr. Uday Kotak, Founder & Director, Kotak Mahindra Bank received the AIMA Lifetime Achievement Award for Management. This year, the AIMA Public Service Excellence Award was presented to Mr. R A Mashelkar, FRS, Former Director General, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). AIMA - Kewal Nohria Award for Academic Leadership in Management Education 2023 was presented to Dr. Bharat Bhasker, Director, IIM Ahmedabad. AIMA also presented the AIMA - Dr J S Juneja Award for Creativity and Innovation in Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises to Mr. B.S. Srinivasan, Managing Partner, Viprof Electronics, and the AIMA Ram Tarneja Award for Best Article in Indian Management to Mr. Amit Mishra, Research Scholar, ISB, Hyderabad.
While talking about the financial sector and India’s transformation, Mr. Uday Kotak, Founder & Director, Kotak Mahindra Bank, discussed various measures that can help navigate the financial sector towards higher GDP of the country in the coming years. The session was moderated by Mr. Vikram Chandra, Founder, Editorji Technologies. During a fireside chat with Mr. Nikhil Sawhney, Mr. Sanjiv Bajaj, Chairman & Managing Director, Bajaj Finserv Ltd, mentioned how technology and innovation are taking the financial sector to newer heights.
In another Plenary Session, various facets of equitable growth were discussed by Mr. R A Mashelkar, FRS, Former Director General, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). The session was moderated by Mr. Sushil Borde, Head - Reliance Innovation Leadership Centre, Reliance Industries Ltd, and the concluding remarks were made by Mr. Vishesh C Chandiok, CEO, Grant Thornton Bharat.
The programme was physically attended by 450 delegates and also streamed on social media. This attracted over 1.15 lacs online viewers who joined to witness the live proceedings.

Mr Shrinivas Dempo, President, AIMA & Chairman, Dempo Group of Companies delivered the welcome address and Mr Vishesh C Chandiok, CEO, Grant Thornton Bharat gave a special address. Mr Nikhil Sawhney, Sr Vice President, AIMA & Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Triveni Turbine Ltd also addressed the gathering and delivered the concluding remarks. Ms Rekha Sethi, Director General, AIMA gave the introductory remarks.
On the occasion, Mr N R Narayana Murthy, Founder, Infosys received the AIMA Life Time Achievement Award for Management. This year the AIMA Public Service Excellence Award was presented to Mr Dilip Asbe, MD and CEO, NPCI and Mr Bunker Roy, Indian Social Activist and Educator, Founder the Barefoot College. AIMA also presented the AIMA - Dr J S Juneja Award for Creativity and Innovation in Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises to Shree Sahajanands Automeck Pvt Ltd and the AIMA Ram Tarneja Award for Best Article in Indian Management to Mr Sanjeev Baitmangalkar, Founder & Principal Consultant, Stratmann Consulting.
Talking about the future of technology, Mr N R Narayana Murthy, Founder, Infosys said that the fundamental function of all technologies, old or new, is to make life more comfortable, raise productivity, save costs, and improve quality. AI, Internet of Things, big data etc will do just that. The session was moderated by Mr Nikhil Sawhney, Sr Vice President, AIMA & Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Triveni Turbine Ltd. In another session, Mr Bunker Roy, Indian Social Activist and Educator, Founder the Barefoot College and Mr Dilip Asbe, Managing Director and CEO, National Payments Corporation of India engaged in a chat with Mr Shrinivas Dempo, President, AIMA & Chairman, Dempo Group of Companies about the power of inclusion. A special digital Souvenir which was made interactive and responsive was also released on the occasion. The programme was streamed on social media also and more than 5000 people joined to watch the live proceedings online.
