AIMA Overview

The All India Management Association (AIMA) is the national apex body of the management profession in India. AIMA was created with the active support of the Government of India and Industry in 1957. Over the last six decades and more, AIMA has contributed immensely to the enhancement of management capability in the country.

AIMA has a broad base of 68 Local Management Associations including two cooperating LMAs abroad, with a membership over 37000 members and close to 6000 corporate /institutional members. AIMA is a non-lobbying organisation, working closely with Industry, Government, Academia and students to further the cause of the management profession in India. AIMA is also represented on Boards of Government bodies including the All India Council for Technical Education, National Board of Accreditation, National Productivity Council to name a few.

AIMA makes a salutary contribution to management learning and practice in the country by offering various services in the areas of testing, distance education, skill development & training, research, publications and management development programmes.

Led by illustrious and visionary Presidents and Office bearers AIMA has successfully brought latest management thought and trends to aspiring and practicing managers.

Mr. Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman, Ambuja Neotia Group currently at the helm of AIMA and is leading the association as its President. Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar, Chairman and Managing Director, Kirloskar Brothers Limited and Mr Harsh Pati Singhania, Director, J.K. Organisation and Vice Chairman & Managing Director, JK Paper Ltd provide guidance and vision as Senior Vice President and Vice President respectively.

AIMA was also fortunate to have Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal, Chairman, The Hero Enterprise lead the association during its Diamond Jubilee last year, where several special initiatives and programmes were held both in India and abroad. The highlight of the year was a special session with the then President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to commemorate AIMA’s special milestone – its 60th year.

For over six decades, AIMA has evolved as times have changed. Today, the association reaches out to millions of management students and professionals and receives active support from the Government and Industry alike.

As a pioneer in distance education, AIMA took up the responsibility for making management education accessible and affordable. Today through its diverse array of certificate, diploma and PhD programmes delivered in blended learning mode, AIMA provides aspiring and practicing management professionals an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and competency. In addition, to help students stay up to date with current industry trends, AIMA provides skill and competency based industry co-partnered courses in close partnerships with organisations like The World Bank, Purdue University, UK’s NOCN, ICICI Centre for Financial Learning to name a few

Not just restricting itself to management education, the association has also built capability in Skill Development and Training, and was instrumental in the setting up of India’s first Management & Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council - of which AIMA is the sole promoter. NSDC has also added Security Council to MEPSC’s portfolio now.

AIMA’s Testing Services alone has reached over 11 million candidates till date, and its widely popular Management Aptitude Test – MAT gives more than 600 B-schools access to the management aspirants across the country. The division also provides end-to- end customised recruitment & admission testing services to its clientele from large public-sector companies, universities and institutions including Supreme Court of India, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., Delhi University, NIFT, NID, Container Corporation of India, Delhi High Court amongst others.

Not resting on its past laurels, AIMA has over the years, increased focus on developing more content based initiatives to cater to the evolving needs of today’s managers. AIMA introduced domain specific Retreats - led and addressed by industry leaders, while simultaneously diversifying and expanding its portfolio of MDPs, education and training programmes to contemporary and topical areas of management in keeping with the changing times.

AIMA interactive programmes act as effective training tools and continue to receive active participation from different parts of the country. AIMA’s unique business simulation programme – Chanakya – creates a life-like corporate environment where participants learn as they compete to lead their virtual companies to profit. AIMA also conducts competitions & quizzes based on topical themes, for B-school students and young managers.

AIMA also recently established the AIMA Case Research Centre, the first of its kind in the country. The case research centre will develop case studies on the companies operating in India and the Indian companies operating globally. In addition, AIMA regularly release researches, reports and surveys in diverse areas and fields in collaboration with renowned knowledge partners.

AIMA’s reach goes way beyond Indian shores. AIMA has developed close associations with several leading international institutions and organisations including Imperial College, Harvard School of Business, University of Berkeley, St Gallen Symposium, Horasis, City and Guilds, SFEDI to name a few. AIMA is also closely associated with Asian Association of Management Organisations – AAMO – and currently has the Vice Presidency of AAMO. India will take over the Presidency of AAMO after Malaysia in 2020.

AIMA’s unique Global Advanced Management Programme (GAMP) conducted in the US every year attracts active participation from senior professionals giving them an opportunity to interact with and visit leading global companies like Google, PayPal, CISCO, Intel, Facebook etc. Recently GAMP was reintroduced in China initiated in Israel. AIMA’s international level conferences conducted in the US, UK, UAE, Mauritius - addressed by international industry and academic thought leaders - continue to grow in strength and stature.
